Working with the existing marble countertop, the cabinets were painted a rich chocolate brown, a beveled mirror edge was added to the mirrors and black faucets were added to create a contemporary look.

When West Plano homeowners Judy and Tim decided to update their 10-year-old master bathroom, they wanted to hire a designer/builder they could trust. A friend in their neighborhood recently had hired Melinda Dzinic, owner of Euro Builders & Remodelers Inc., a company that specializes in stone work and faux finishes, for a remodeling project. Judy and Tim were impressed with all they saw and heard about the work.
At their initial meeting, Judy says Dzinic walked through her entire home, talked about the couple’s taste and the style of the rest of the home, as well as what the homeowners wanted to accomplish in their master bath. “Melinda seemed to know almost immediately what we were looking for,” Judy recalls.
The couple wanted to update their master bathroom without demolishing everything. “They liked the layout of the bathroom, but there were aspects of the bathroom they didn’t like,” Dzinic says. They wanted to add contemporary flair, but maintain a clean, soft look. They also wanted to keep the marble countertop and large mirrors and expand the shower. “I really listened to what they wanted, and Judy trusted me so much,” Dzinic says.
Judy echoes that sentiment. “We had a lot of faith in Melinda from the beginning,” she says.
The project took 30 days, and was completed quickly because Dzinic does the design and purchases all the materials before she starts a project. “We were impressed with the organization throughout the process and the accuracy of the estimate,” Judy says.
While the homeowners wanted to keep the large mirrors, they needed to be updated. This was accomplished by adding a beveled mirror edge around three sections of the mirror. “It looks like three individual mirrors and makes a bold statement,” Dzinic says.
The couple also wanted to keep the existing white marble countertop and cabinets. The cabinets were painted a dark brown, which ties in nicely with the warm hand-selected travertine floor tiles, bathtub surround and shower, and picks up on the color of the dark brown listelle accent tiles in the shower.
Lighting also was an important aspect of the project. One decorative light was added in the center of bathroom, and recessed lighting was strategically placed above the vanity.
