REGARDLESS OF YOUR
HOME DÉCOR, YOU CAN
FIND A FAUX FINISH
PERFECT FOR YOU

Contemporary: Metallic textures, coppery slick finishes and pearly waxes with geometric and art deco designs work well.

Old World or Tuscan: Color-washed surfaces, Venetian plasters or time-worn, crumbed textures with faded patterns. Accent with tarnished metallics.

Country French: Faded blue, rich gold and cream used in faux moires, stries, fabriclike brocades and damask patterns create illusions with paint, texture and scale.

Traditional: In neutral or jewel tones, traditional interiors work with a tailored look. Stippled glazes, tone-on-tone stripes and embossed patterns convey cohesiveness.

Shabby chic or eclectic: Well-loved, gently used furnishings work with peeled painted finishes, eggshell crackle and weathered cabinetry with hand-painted detail.

Romantic: Soft surroundings create a
great hideaway. Use aged-tissue finishes, gossamer glazes, Chantilly lace textures and soft, shimmery waxes.

YOU CAN LEARN FAUX FINISHING AND DECORATIVE PAINTING

Anything But Plain, School of Decorative Finishes is a
nationally licensed training center for faux and decorative
finishes. We offer a wide array of classes for the beginner as
well as the professional. The artists of Anything But Plain
Studio do commissioned work for interior designers,
decorators and builders.

Janie Ellis, ASID, CFC, and Master Artisan,
Anything But Plain, School of Decorative Finishes

“Faux and decorative finishes are so much more than sponging. It’s an art
form that can add the perfect ambiance to any room. There are so many
wonderful special effects that can be created on walls and furniture to
achieve that ‘designer look,’ but you need to find out about the possibilities.

“If you want to learn how to do faux and decorative finishes, you need
to be taught by expert teachers. Twenty years ago I traveled throughout the
U.S. and Europe to learn these time-proven techniques as well as current
cutting-edge products. I established this school to bring the best of the
best to Houston.

“Choose from our many classes that teach professional techniques in
textures, glazes, metallics, waxes and hand-painted ornament, taught by
artisans with more than 150 years of combined practical experience. The
atmosphere in our classes is not intimidating — it’s fun. We offer hands-on
instruction in small classes of no more than 12 students to teach you
what the videos can’t and the TV shows don’t show.”
