Seek expert guidance from a building consultant. Recognize that as an amateur, you are more likely to make costly mistakes.
If you need a construction loan, a “Builder of Record” form that specifies a professional builder will be required by the lender.
Include a building consultant to act as your advocate in design discussions with an architect.
During land selection, address these questions: How much should you pay? Is demolition required? Will the plans fit the lot? How will drainage be handled? What about utilities? Is there a homeowners’ association? Does the property need to be re-platted?
